Prior to Meritech, Craig was the CEO of Gaia Online, a pioneer in social games and online communities, which grew from 500K to over 20M MAUs under his watch. Prior to Gaia, Craig served as an EIR at Benchmark Capital. Prior to Benchmark, Craig was COO of Ancestry.com, where he helped lead the company’s pivot from a free family social network to a family history subscription service. He grew revenue from less than $10M to over $150M and cash flow from tens of millions of losses to tens of millions in profits. Before Ancestry.com, Craig held senior positions at AIG – he was Head of Marketing and Internet for all of AIG's Japanese and Korean divisions, totaling over $5B in sales; and GM of AIG's property management software subsidiary, a $90M revenue company whose growth rate quadrupled during Craig's tenure. Prior to AIG, Craig was CEO of Cendant Japan, a joint venture startup he founded with Cendant and Mitsubishi Corporation that he helped grow from inception to over $20M in revenue and profitably in 3 years. Before that, he held product, marketing, finance and operations roles at Cendant during its growth from less than a $1B to over a $40B public company. In his years at Cendant, he ran travel, dining, health, commerce and pet consumer subscription services.
Craig has personally invested in over a dozen startups including Ancestry.com, SurveyMonkey (SVMK), Zillow (ZG) and Zipcar (CAR), Everlane, Rev.com and Grand Rounds. He has held independent board and advisory roles with Homestead (INTU), Kongregate (GME), Logoworks (HPQ), Netquote (RATE) and Photobucket (FOX).
Craig has been named to the Forbes 'Midas List,' a recognition given to the world's top tech investors.
Craig graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University. He spends his free time with his son, Kaz, and daughter, Kaya. He enjoys hiking, playing soccer, doing puzzles, meditating and reading classic novels.
